Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror

A dark, isolated castle, terrified villagers, a creepy, devil-eared count, a slowly opening door, marks on a visitor’s throat—this is the silent film “Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror,” showing at the Historical Society, 215 Still River Road, on Wednesday, Oct. 28, at 7 p.m. The 1922 German Expressionist vampire film is an unauthorized adaptation of Bram Stoker’s 1897 “Dracula,” but it is said to be even more terrifying, with haunting images.

Playing the live, improvised accompaniment on the society’s restored Stevens pipe organ is Peter Krasinski, internationally acclaimed theater organist. In his skilled hands, the organ’s dynamic range of tones and unique timbre will evoke a wide range of emotions and atmospheres. In conveying the presence of pure evil, Krasinski will produce volume that audience members will feel down to their toes.
